Report: Free Practice Quotes, Algarve 2009

Quotes from Free Practice for Rounds 7 & 8

Christian Mamerow (#37 Zakspeed Racing Viper Competition Coupe)
"That was a new experience for me after driving for Alpina in Oschersleben and it is good to be here in Portugal with Zakspeed and back in the FIA GT3 Championship. The Viper is a brand new car for me and is has a lot traction and good speed. We do have to work on the driveability of the car because accelerating out of the corners os a bit of a problem at the moment.  The time was OK for me, I had five to six laps to get used to the car, so I think I can develop myself as well during the next session and we'll see how our potential works in qualifying."

Marc Bronzel (#37 Zakspeed Racing Viper Competition Coupe)
"The first session wasn't particularly good for myself because we had the red flags and we weren't sure if we could start the session again so I got out of the car.  I need to get used to the track and I need as much time in the car as possible.  The circuit here is very good for the Viper with straights and fast corners and the car is very reliable.  We've made good progress in the free practice sessions, we'll see what will happen in qualifying later on but we're very happy so far.   We raced against each other in the VLN and I am very happy to be doing the race this weekend with Christian."

Frederic Makowiecki(#4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9)
"That session was a little bit difficult because we had a problem with the gearbox, it isn't very improtant, just a little repair but we hope we can repair the car before the second free practice.  I think we can do a good race, it is a good track but very bumpy, which isn't very good for the Aston, but it is the same for everybody.  I'm not sure it will be easy to overtake here but we will see tomorrow."

Marco Holzer (#12 Prospeed Competition Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S)
"The first session was definately better, it was my first time in the car.  We were 5th in the first session and 18th in the second and we still have some problems with the car but I think we are ready for the qualifying.  We'll change something and hope it will be better."

Doros Loucaides (#18 Muehlner Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S)
"After racing in single seaters I had to get used to driving a car which is more unstable and I had to do it here in the Algarve, which is a blind, turn kind of circuit and not the easiest to get used to.  But it is very good fun!"

Danny Van Dongen (#56 CRS Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia)
"The first session was a little hard.  Of course it is a new circuit and then I tried to overtake my teammate Klaas (Hummel), there was a small mistake, he slipped and the gearbox stopped; so the first red flag was my fault. The second practice was better and we'll see later in the qualifying, I'm looking forward to it. This circuit is amazing, a lot of blind corners which make it difficult but it is great to drive."
